Begin in the Berrywood South community on Jamar Drive

Right Turn out of the community onto Asbury Drive (formerly MD 648)

Follow this to the “T” intersection with MD 648 B&A Blvd.

Start - usually 6:15-6:30 AM               Asbury Drive (downhill)

Left Turn onto MD 648 B&A Blvd

Follow through the traffic light crossing Ritchie Highway

MD 648 becomes Whites Rd after crossing Ritchie Highway

Crossing Ritchie Highway                    Whites Road behind Heavenly Ham

Follow Whites Rd to the B&A Bike trail (http://web.aacpl.net/rp/parks/bat/index.html)

Turn Right onto the B&A Bike Trail.

The B&A Trail Ranger Station             Action shot on the trail

Follow the B&A Trail North toward Glen Burnie.

Follow for about 6 miles crossing the bridge over Route 100 past Marley Station mall. I follow the trail only to the Harundale area. Another option would be to follow the B&A bike trail to its end near the Cromwell Field Light rail station. From there, one could take the light rail or follow MD 648 B&A Blvd North into Baltimore.

Approaching the Rt. 100 Bridge          Crossing Rt. 100                                 Marley Station Mall

Turn Left onto Aquahart Rd.

Follow Aquahart across Crain Highway in Glen Burnie where it becomes Thelma Ave. Stay on Thelma Ave as it makes a sharp right turn and becomes Old Stage Dr. This sounds more complicated than it really is.

Harundale area                                     Aquahart Road                                   Thelma Avenue

Turn Left onto Stewart Avenue.

Stewart Avenue crosses over I-97 and intersects the BWI Bike trail on the left side of the road. Crossing is easiest at the intersection of Stewart Ave and Dorsey Rd. After Dorsey Road Stewart Ave becomes Aviation Blvd.

Turn Right onto MD 170 Camp Meade Rd.

After crossing the Light Rail again you will pass by the Linthicum Bike Doctor on the right. Though they are not open at 7AM they are conveniently located for the ride home if a need for service arises (http://www.bikedoctor.com/linthicum.htm)

Turn Left onto MD 648 B&A Blvd.

This is a pretty busy intersection, but there are not many cars turning left and you do get a green arrow from the traffic light. You will cross over the Patapsaco River and begin to gain some elevation until you cross over W. Patapsaco Ave.

After Patapsaco Ave. there is a short downhill section that goes under a train bridge that requires you to take the lane.

Patapsco Avenue intersection              Crossing 295                                       Train Bridge

Turn Right onto Waterview Ave to cross over I-295

This is a short (under 1 block) section.

Downhill toward the city                       Houses along MD 648

Turn Left onto MD 648 B&A Blvd again.

This will take you past the Resco Trash burning plant

Baltimore World Trade Center            The Power Plant/Hard Rock Cafe

Continue Straight on Eastern Avenue.

Another option would have been to follow Pratt Street from the Inner Harbor instead of dropping down to Eastern. On Pratt I would get passed by 50-100 fast moving cars. On Eastern, I am passed on average by less than 5 cars before I have to turn.

Pier 6 concert pavillion                        Pedestrian traffic

 Public Works Museum                         Eastern Avenue

Turn Left onto Washington Street.

On one occasion I was making this Left Turn by taking the lane and signaling with an outstretched Left Hand. Just as oncoming traffic had cleared, a car passed me from behind at a high rate of speed completely in the left lane – close to removing my left arm!
